“And I will give to you and your descendants after you, the land of your sojournings, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession. . . .” Genesis 17: 8

By Christine Darg

As one who has appreciated our biblical patriarchs all my life, I’m very concerned by the number of professing Christians who are actually fighting the God of Israel by opposing and resenting the modern Jewish state. Some rootless Christians are becoming ruthless as they naively embrace terrorist goals to defraud the Jews.

Many deny that modern Israel and Biblical Israel are connected.

But the state of Israel is an ongoing fulfillment of Biblical prophecy!

God keeps his word, and he promised that he would regather the Jewish people back to Zion into their own land in the latter days. There are many verses including Jeremiah 31:10, “Hear the word of the LORD, O nations, And declare it in the isles afar off, and say, ‘He who scattered Israel will gather him, And keep him as a shepherd does his flock.’

Anti-semites think they can excuse their hatred by claiming only to be against Zionism, not against Jews. But anti-Zionism, Jew hatred and anti-semitism are all one and the same. It’s just a matter of semantics.

Evangelical Christian Zionists are being criticized along with Jews because Israel’s enemies know they must undermine Christian support of Israel.

After the horrors of the Holocaust anti-semitism was viewed as a social negative, but the mood has changed drastically since 7 October 2023, when the most savage attacks on Israel occurred. The attacks by the terrorist organization Hamas were so perverse that October 7 should have curbed anti-semitism but strangely the massacre only served to increase Jew hatred.

But the truth is, Israel is destined to outlive all its enemies because God has an eternal covenant with the Jews. This covenant is recorded in both the Hebrew Bible and the New Testament and is expressed through several subsidiary covenants, including those with Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and David.

Recently at my JerusalemChannel YouTube site, I was confronted by a sponsored video deriding biblical Zionism. The presenter argued that the modern state of Israel could not possibly be a fulfillment of Bible prophecy because it was founded by atheists and secular unbelievers. This erroneous view reveals a great ignorance of the Word of God. In fact, the prophetic scriptures predict that the Jewish people will return to their ancestral land in unbelief, and then, as a remnant nation, they will only embrace Yeshua (the Hebrew name of Jesus) after the pressures of the Great Tribulation. (The term Great Tribulation was first used by Jesus in Matthew 24: 15 in his Olivet Discourse in which He addressed His Jewish disciples Peter, James and John who had asked, “what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?” There are also two uses of the phrase in the Book of Revelation.)

Meanwhile, it’s timely to notify readers of a reprint this month of a book by theologian Dr. Thomas Ice—“The Case for Zionism: Why Christians Should Support Israel.”

Dr. Ice brings together biblical, historical and legal arguments for the legitimacy of the nation of Israel as well as exploring the prophetic future of Israel. He answers many of the contemporary arguments that are attempting to delegitimize Israel.

We need information like Dr. Ice’s book because the stage is being set for the culmination of human history, and the focus on the nation of Israel and her enemies will only increase. At some point all nations will come against Israel according to the prophet Zechariah.

However, Israel will have one person on her side— the Lord God Almighty.

The Lord will protect his chosen people, even though the nation is destined to endure great testing.

A yet future time of persecution will cause many Israelis to flee from Jerusalem and Judah to hide in the wilderness for a 3 1/2 year period.  Most likely many Bible scholars believe the Jews will escape to the fortress of Petra in southwest Jordan, as I have explained in my book “Appointment in Petra.” This book is another important read to understand the times.

Revelation Chapter 12 explains why the world will hate and persecute Israel during the Great Tribulation. It is because of the ongoing conflict between the seed of the woman and the seed of the serpent as originally prophesied in Genesis 3: 15. That verse prophesied that Satan would bruise the heel of the Messiah, BUT the Messiah would crush the serpent’s head— (the victory of Calvary). Therefore brain-damaged Satan suffers from a form of insanity. He thinks he can prevail against the Almighty. He inspires jihadists to make a battle cry that their god is greater. But none is greater than the One true God of Israel, who is the same God that Bible-believing Christians worship.

Chris Tomlin wrote a worship song, “Our God is greater, our God is stronger. God, You are higher than any other. . . Out of the ashes we arise. There’s no one like You. None like You. . . .”

The God of Israel will stand up BIG TIME in the Ezekiel Chapter 38 war, and from that day onward, the nations will know Who is the greatest.

And David blessed Yehovah before the eyes of all the assembly, and David said “Blessed are You, Yehovah, God of Israel our father, from age even unto age. To You, O Yehovah, is the greatness, and the might, and the beauty, and the victory, and the honour, because of all in the heavens and in the earth; to Thee, O Yehovah, is the kingdom; Thou art exalted as head over all; and the riches, and the honour are from Thee, and Thou art ruling over all, and in Thy hand is power and might, and in Thy hand, to make great, and to give strength to all. And now, our God, we are giving thanks to Thee, and giving praise to Thy beauteous name.” (1 Chronicles 29: 10-13)

The Jewish people teach us to use the psalms in spiritual warfare. For many years in Jerusalem, we have prayed for God to bind the evil principality that is behind today’s global terrorism and anti-semitism.

Some of the key verses that we have used are found in Psalm 149:

Praise Yah! Sing to Yehovah a new song, His praise in an assembly of saints. The exaltation of God is in their throat, And a two-edged sword [Word of God] in their hand. To do vengeance among nations, Punishments among the peoples. To bind their [spiritual] kings with chains, And their honoured ones with fetters of iron, To do among them the judgment written, This honor have all his saints. Praise Yah!”

So let us extol the high praises of God in spiritual warfare today. We have an enemy that is operating differently from times past. The world is being drawn into World War 3, and the enemy’s tactic is to strike at soft targets.

We thank God that the battle is the LORD’s!

Amen and Amen!
